What is OT on Campus?

Transition to adulthood is a challenging time. For the college student who struggles with some aspect of academic performance, self-care, or social/leisure development, occupational therapists provide highly skilled evaluations that identify hidden barriers and create treatment plans emphasizing functional outcomes. High school students planning for next steps benefit from learning about themselves, informing decisions made in early transition to college and career. Parents and caregivers are also navigating changes in the way they provide support and facilitate independence for their young adult.

Campuses offer thoughtfully designed resources that are effective for most students. OT on Campus is for the motivated student who continues to struggle even after utilizing campus resources. We can work in partnership with campus professionals or as a standalone provider. Our goal is always to facilitate the transition to independent student life at the level of support needed to achieve their goals.

Whether the student has an identified disability or is experiencing difficulty for the first time, the OT on Campus program works with the student on their terms to design individualized and motivating plans based on the goals of the student. As occupational therapists, we uniquely consider every aspect of the student's lived experience: cognitive, physical, psychosocial, and environmental, often finding strategies never considered prior to working with us.

My "burying the 'peas' in the 'mashed potatoes" approach looks and feels different from traditional therapy. Programs are experience focused and strategies are hidden within richly planned activities. Most participants learn more than they anticipated and enjoy trying new approaches.
